SUMMARY:Domestic Abuse & Intersectionality (Online Refresher)
DESCRIPTION:Domestic Abuse and Intersectionality\nWhen working with victim-survivors of domestic abuse\, it is essential to consider intersectionality – the way different aspects of a person’s identity (such as gender\, race\, ethnicity\, socioeconomic status\, disability\, sexual orientation\, and immigration status) interact to shape their experiences of privilege and oppression. This in turn affects their experiences of abuse and the potential response from the agencies that work with them. \nTraining aims \nTo understand; \n\nWhat intersectionality is.\nWhat oppression and privilege mean.\nWhat stereotypes are and why they can be harmful.\nWhat discrimination and double discrimination mean.\nMyths around intersectionality.\nThe importance of intersectionality when working in Domestic Abuse.\nIntersectionality and children and young people.\nHow to approach our personal and professional lives with intersectionality.\nHow organisations can embed intersectionality.\nWhich organisations offer specialist support.\nHow to apply your learning using a case study\n\n\n\n \n \n Domestic Abuse & Intersectionality\n \n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Organisation(Required)Role(Required)Email(Required)\n \n PhoneAdditional requirement to support your trainingAre you a DA Champion - please mark one box with an xYesNo    Add Remove

SUMMARY:'Supporting children’s agency and "unmuting" their voice in professional settings': FULL
DESCRIPTION:This is an online event via MS Teams which will explore children as victims in their own right in accordance with The Domestic Abuse Act 2021. \nSuzannah Armstrong from the Office of the Police Crime Commissioner Norfolk will open the event with a video – ‘Zuzannah Story’ – a powerful account from Zuzannah about her experience as a child of domestic abuse. \nWe have speakers from; \nThe Change Project – Zara Travers is the Training and Development Manager  –  With a background in Criminology and Psychology\, extensive frontline experience\, and lived experience as a child affected by domestic abuse\, Zara is committed to elevating the understanding of children as victims\, not witnesses\, in their own right. Her work centres on ‘unmuting’ the child’s voice within safeguarding and intervention\, ensuring professionals recognise the distinct harms\, needs\, and perspectives of children living with domestic abuse. In her upcoming talk\, she highlights why truly hearing\, validating\, and acting upon the child’s voice is essential to effective protection and long‑term recovery. \nThe CADS Team at Norfolk County Council represented by Lisa Smith -CADS Education Representative\, who is responsible for the daily delivery of Operation Encompass to school-age children within Norfolk. Lisa will be speaking about Operation Encompass and the importance of alerting schools and colleges early in the day. Alongside Lisa\, three Key Adults/Designated Safeguarding Leads from unique school settings will share how they listen and advocate their feelings and wishes. All three are Domestic Champions from primary\, secondary\, and special schools\, offering insight into how divergent this work can be. \nClaire Throssell MBE –  Survivor Claire Throssell’s two sons\, Jack\, 12\, and Paul\, 9\, were both killed by their father\, despite her warnings that he was a danger to them. She has since campaigned tirelessly to stop unsafe child contact with dangerous perpetrators of domestic abuse. Due to her commitment and resolve\, family courts are safer – it’s now mandatory for the courts to determine whether children will be at risk of harm from a contact order\, and perpetrators are no longer able to cross examine their victims in court. \nPlease apply via the form below.
